The purpose of this digital learning object is to show the potential increase in carbon emissions until the year 2100. The applet will challenge the user to determine if global anthropogenic climate change can be mitigated with technologies that exist today.

Using the menu tabs at the top of the screen, you can predict the extent of certain technologies in 2100, and see what impact that could have on global carbon emissions. Note that the values on the sliders represent values predicted for 2100, not today's values.

As you adjust the sliders, the projection arrow on the Projected Carbon Emissions graph will move. The starting position of the arrow on the top of the yellow triangle represents the current trajectory if no technological advances or behavioral changes are made. Try to bring the projected carbon emissions down until the arrow reaches the bottom of the yellow triangle.

As you change the sliders, keep an eye on the Reality Check bar in the lower left corner. This bar will turn green if your predictions for 2100 are reasonable, and red if they're not.
