The Mass Spectrometer

An isotopic ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS) is used to determine the 18O to 16O ratios within a sample of CO2. The sample will produce 2 peaks of interest at 44 and 46. These two values represent the two most common arrangements of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Scan the sample and write down intensity values for 44 and 46m/z; you will need them for the next step in temperature determination.
